How to brief a request
A good brief gives the work a destination without prescribing every design decision.
The useful essentials
- Goal: what needs to change for your business?
- Audience: who needs to understand, believe, or do something?
- Deliverable: what do you need, where will it appear, and at what size?
- Content: supply approved copy, imagery, logos, data, and required information.
- Constraints: deadlines, platform, accessibility needs, and brand rules.
- Approval: who makes the final decision, and when can they review?
An example
We need a landing page for our new service. It is for local business owners comparing providers. The main action is booking a consultation. Here is the approved offer, current logo, and three examples we like. We want to discuss the launch date before work begins.
You do not need the answer already
A business problem is a valid starting point. Tell me what is happening and what you want to accomplish. A strategy or audit request can help identify the right deliverable before we commit to designing it.
